Hunger for More
Poverty and Hunger are Real
In 2006, 35.5 million Americans
were classified by the Department of Agriculture as food insecure, a term for those who survive on a diet not nutritious enough
to keep a child healthy. In the Isaiah 58 Ministries service area, 27% of the population lives below the poverty level—four times the
poverty level of the Saint Louis Metro area. Indeed, poverty, hunger and injustice are real issues within our communities. But these issues
can only be addressed adequately after one gains a deeper understanding of their causes. Hunger For More provides that deeper understanding through
its fun and informative program format. Geared
to youth and young adults, participants will experience 24 hours of powerful and meaning-filled activities. The
program is designed to meet the needs of any size group, from as few as 10 to as many as 50 or more.

Hunger for More is a program geared toward youth and young adults. It provides an opportunity
to learn about the issues of hunger, poverty and injustice both within the Saint Louis community and the world.
While
participating in a 24-hour fast, participants will also experience first-hand some of the many issues the poor and homeless
experience on a day-to-day basis.
Opportunities during the fast include: ·
Poverty education and simulation activities ·
Guest speakers to share their personal experiences and knowledge of the issues ·
Mission work at local food pantries and other social service organizations ·
Time for reflection and journaling ·
Time and guidance in designing and leading a presentation to share their experience with
others
