Dear Friends:
As we near the season of Lent, we, are preparing for our annual Hunger for More campaign here at Isaiah 58 Ministries. Lent is an ancient Christian tradition marked by 40 days of self-examination and intentional spiritual acts designed to draw us closer to God and encourage personal spiritual growth. Recognizing Jesus’ 40 days of fasting and prayer in the wilderness before he began his public ministry, Lent inspires both individuals and faith communities to refocus and renew our efforts to live lives of meaning and purpose.
During the COVID-19 pandemic we took a sabbatical from offering our Lenten calendar to focus on meeting the increased needs within our community.
This year the campaign has returned, and we are inviting our supporters to intentional acts of reflection and prayer throughout the season of Lent. As you sit down to enjoy meals each day, take time to remember those whose cupboards are empty and do not know from where their next meal is coming. Remember those who have no table at which to eat or no electricity to prepare a meal. Pray for those whose only hot meals come from the soup kitchen down the street, where a friendly smile and warm hug fill them just as much as the food.
Take time and reflect on the bounty that surrounds you and consider ways in which you can share that bounty with others. Pray for guidance as you seek to be God’s heart and hands in this world.
As we have done in previous years, during our 2022 Hunger for More campaign we are asking you to support Isaiah 58 Ministries with a donation in the amount of what you would spend on an average dining out experience each week throughout the Lenten season. Consider those who cannot afford the luxury of eating at a restaurant and know that your financial support will provide food for over 800 families whom we serve every month through our food pantry.
You can donate online at https://i58ministries.org/donate/ and designate your gift to Hunger for More. Alternatively, you can use the enclosed envelope to mail in your donation.
With this letter you will also find our daily Lenten calendar. Each day offers an opportunity for experiencing God through intentional acts – whether through research and study, spending time alone in reflection, or reaching out to others in your community.
Join us as we Hunger for More!
We pray you have a blessed and meaningful season of Lent and thank you for sharing your bounty with others.
Sincerely,
Rev. Brenda L. Booth
