The Isaiah 58 Ministries Advocacy Team has been busy at work identifying different ways that we can engage in systemic change, and we are inviting our guests (and you) into the work. We recognize that while many of our programs meet immediate needs, we all have a role to play in the long term, larger change-making necessary to make this a just world for all.
In 2024, we partnered with local advocates to register voters, share election resources, and raise awareness around critical issues like the Farm Bill, summer food programs, and food stamp access. We also collaborated with the League of Women Voters to provide nonpartisan voting information.
Since February 2025, guests and volunteers have joined our Friday letter-writing campaigns to advocate for vital programs like Medicare, Medicaid, SNAP, WIC, and Social Security. Dedicated volunteers ensure each letter is mailed, helping those without reliable technology speak to their elected officials.
We’ve also prioritized education, hosting a SNAP-focused Lunch & Learn with the St. Louis Area Foodbank and a special session for our staff and volunteers with Immigrant and Refugee Ministries to help deepen our understanding of immigrant needs in our community.
Our Program Director, Meredith, remains actively engaged locally with Empower Missouri Food Security Coalition, and nationally with the Food Research and Action Center. She recently provided testimony to support state house and senate bills, advocating for changes to the food pantry tax credit.
We are committed to empowering our community through advocacy. Want to help? Some volunteers are hosting “letter signing” tables in their own churches, using our templates. If you would like help with organizing an event, Contact Meredith.
