By Rev. Meredith Jackson, Hunger Program Director
Fall is a time of busy activity and celebration at Isaiah 58 Ministries. Minds are turned toward our holiday celebrations, where we serve our community with food, clothing, and a special holiday store.
We’re called to act out of abundance.
Acting out of abundance can seem like a strange posture at a food pantry. During an ongoing pandemic, it’s even stranger. Yet this is the work that we are called to do. When faced with hunger, struggle, and need, we are called to act out of bounty and serve with generosity, hope, and faith. We believe there is enough, and we are a conduit for the gifts of the world.
This holiday season we’ll distribute full bags of food for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Our holiday food is in addition to our regular, ongoing food pantry operations. Following our commitment to guest choice, we will carefully balance the need for health and safety with our desire to let our guests choose the food that works best for them. We will offer canned food alongside fresh produce and dairy. We will act out of the belief that there is enough, and kindness and community can go a long way toward making sure that every person has a bountiful holiday season.
Giving this holiday season
The gifts to our annual Buy A Bird campaign help make this holiday season happen. Buy A Bird provides families with food for their holiday tables. Ongoing gifts to the ministry help provide coats for winter warmth. Your gifts give us space to act with radical abundance. May your table, and ours, be set for a bountiful holiday, and may we all be brave enough to share this abundance with others.
