On February 9, well before the first play was called and shortly after the opening prayer, the annual Souper Bowl collection kicked off at Hope United Church of Christ in South St. Louis City. The children of Hope UCC led the cause by explaining how Isaiah 58 Ministries, with generous support from churches and individuals alike, serves the community with fresh food, clothing and health services. They shared how guests can shop in the choice pantry twice per month and come every Friday for Fresh Food Fridays. Each month they can fill a bag or two with clothes (including a new coat when needed) that were donated by our many generous donors.
They also shared how, in addition to the weekly services offered, every fall guests can receive free flu shots and in the late winter they are invited to attend a Health Fair with vendors from a variety of local organizations.
Following the discussion of Isaiah 58 Ministries offerings, the children carried soup pots through the congregation and collected donations for the pantry.
Organizations like Hope UCC and many others are how we can do what we do day after day—helping meet the basic needs of the community.
