We at Isaiah 58 Ministries are fortunate to be surrounded by superheroes. We have superhero guests who are kind and loving, superhero volunteers who serve with their time, Superheroes donors who give generously to this important work, and superhero staff who work to keep it all together. In thanksgiving, we declare this year to be the year of the superhero!
Superpower: To enable people to see the good in themselves and each other.
Favorite part of Isaiah 58 Ministries: The human element. I’m so impressed by the mutual respect and value demonstrated in the interactions of staff, volunteers, and guests…. the Isaiah 58 community!
Joyce has been volunteering at Isaiah 58 Ministries for about 3 years. She started coming with members of her church to assist with fresh food distributions on Monday, and then stepped up to help us organize the non-food room. Some of you may have witnessed the transformation of the room under Joyce’s care. Since March of this year, and the beginning of our changes in response to COVID-19, Joyce has been volunteering 4 to 5 days per week. She sees this work as a call from God, and explains, “I am so grateful to work with others who are also called to serve our clients, our neighbors, our sisters and our brothers – as Brenda says ‘our community.’”
We are grateful that Joyce has been willing to step into a variety of roles at the ministry. She was able to help with our superhero food drive, organize the back to school supplies, and she’s already hard at work for our Christmas store. “Isaiah 58 is my happy place,” says Joyce. “It is where I am called to serve. I look forward to growing closer relationships with everyone who comes to Isaiah 58, whether to serve or to be served.”
Joyce is a superhero. We celebrate her!
A prayer: Gracious God, thank you for our superheroes. For their generosity, loving kindness, and willingness to work to be repairers of the breach. May you strengthen them for their work, and empower them to continue their good work in the world.
