By Rev. Meredith Jackson, Program Director & Jean S, Volunteer & Clothing Room Extraordinaire
As we greet fall weather, many of us pull out our coats and prepare for chilly temperatures. Here at Isaiah 58 Ministries, we take stock of our clothing room and shift our clothes from summer to fall and winter, and prepare to offer our guests warmer clothing in the colder months.
This shift in seasons always reminds us that our clothing room serves a lot of people in a small space. In the past 6 months, we have had over 700 visits to our clothing room. Households are invited to shop in the room, for a free bag of clothes, once per month. There is clearly an increase in need for clothing.
This winter, we hope you’ll participate in clothing our community by donating your gently used clothes and shoes to our clothing room. We accept shoes and clothing for men, women, and children. Items should be clean and in a gently worn state (no stains, holes, or tears) and all sizes are needed. Due to our lack of storage space and the desire to hang seasonable appropriate items, donated clothing should be wearable in the current season. October is a great month to donate winter items.
As winter is approaching, we are also accepting donations of gently used winter coats that can keep folks warm and dry in the elements. Non-wool coats are particularly helpful. Function over fashion, around here.
Donations are received M-F, 10am-1pm. Please drop off all donations in the alley behind the building, which is where our entrance is. The alley can be accessed from Flora Place.
If you need to set up a donation drop-off outside of those hours, please contact the office at 314-776-1410 and we will work with you to find another time. If you are interested in hosting a clothing drive, contact us and we will gladly provide you with best practices, and our most-needed list.
