Eleven years ago Isaiah 58 Ministries launched its annual Hunger for More Lenten campaign. As you know, Lent is an ancient Christian tradition marked by 40 days of self-examination and intentional spiritual acts designed to draw us closer to God and encourage personal spiritual growth. Recognizing Jesus’ 40 days of fasting and prayer in the wilderness before he began his public ministry, the season of Lent inspires both individuals and faith communities to refocus and renew our efforts to live lives of meaning and purpose.

This year we are again calling on you, our supporters, to intentional acts of reflection throughout the season. As you sit to enjoy meals each day, take time to remember those whose cupboards are empty and don’t know from where their next meal is coming. Remember those who have no table at which to eat or no electricity to prepare a meal. Remember those whose only hot meals come from the soup kitchen down the street, where a friendly smile and warm hug fill them just as much as the food.
Take time and reflect on the bounty that surrounds you and consider ways in which you can share that bounty with others.
A calendar has been created as an aid in your time of reflection. Each week begins with a focus word and short line of meditation. Then, each day of the week offers an opportunity for experiencing God through intentional acts—whether by simply watching a video, spending time alone in reflection, or reaching out to others in your community.
The calendar is available here for you to print, save, and use this season.
We pray you have a blessed and meaningful season of Lent.
